Promoting innovation is indispensable to achieving sustainable development in an increasingly globalized context. The annual conference on Innovation and Integration for Development (VIID), which was initiated by Foreign Trade University (FTU) and in collaboration with the Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI) – the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy – National University of Singapore, is to provide an academic platform to have insights into the significance of innovation and international integration to achieve sustainable development at all levels.
The world has been faced with persistent challenges such as climate change and natural disasters. In addition, globalization and international economic integration have been halted due to shocks from the protectionist policies. Outlook reports by major international organizations have all raised concerns of policy uncertainty. According to the World Economic Outlook Report released by IMF in 2025, global growth is projected on divergent paths given the rising policy uncertainty. The OECD Economic Outlook has also emphasized that policy uncertainty has been high and significant risks remain. One of the key concerns is the further fragmentation of the global economy. The Asian Development Outlook Report of ADB in 2025 also highlights that trade uncertainty is exceptionally high and geopolitical tensions are rising. As such, collaboration and innovation are called to enhance dynamic and sustainable trade and development.
FTU and ACI are pleased to host the forth annual VIID conference on “Navigating Global Trade and Economic Development Uncertainties in the Age of Protectionist Policies and Geopolitical Turmoil” (VIID 2025) in Singapore, on December 12, 2025. The VIID 2025 will present the latest research findings on theoretical and practical development while addressing micro and macro development issues. This will enable policymakers, organization leaders, and enterprise managers to adapt to new contexts and adopt new policies to foster the momentum of economic and business transformation for sustainable development.
We proudly invite academics and professionals working in any fields of economics, business, and development to contribute to the conference by presenting papers, participating in discussions, and attending workshops. The conference accepts manuscripts of original research that have not been previously published elsewhere. Researchers and scholar-practitioners are invited to contribute papers.
